How Laws are Made in NZ

Wednesday 22nd September

Our school is doing a unit on law and order and this week Room 8 were able to learn about how laws are made in NZ.

The steps to describe how laws were made were very interesting.  Some students were able to memorise these steps in 2 lessons.

It's been a week since we learnt this. I wonder if anyone can still remember what those steps are?  Try this pick a pathway slide deck to see.

How did you do? Did you learn something new or did you ace it?

Tongan Language Week in Rm8

Monite 6 Sepitema - Falaite 10 Sepitema

Tongan Language Week in Room 8

Fitness was done with our normal flare & creativity as well as counting down in Tongan.
Taha, ua, tolu, fa, nima, ono, fitu, valu, hiva, hongofulu...

After fitness we'd start our day singing the Tongan National anthem and a lotu (prayer).

We were able to research and learn basic words and   phrases in Tongan.

Samisoni led us in a fun game of Tongan Language pictionary.

What fun activities did you get to do in your online classes during Tongan Language week?

It's Falaite and Lucy, Samisoni and I (Ms Siaoloa) are waiting for the rest of the class
to join us.

We're dressed up and ready for our School Assembly
celebrating Tongan language week (below).
Was great to see many students, families and staff at our school assembly.

Fabulous Fun Friday

Games - Fun - Amazing Surprise - Respect

Our Friday was filled with all the above.

The week before, Mrs Mundy sent the invite above.

At 9:45am, we along with others accepted the challenge.

Thank you Mrs Mundy for setting this up for us all to enjoy.

Was nice to see students from different classes join in and give it a go.  Some of the games were really tricky, like writing the alphabet with a pen in your mouth, tying a shoelace with one hand, side crab crawl without one limb and many more.

Are you able to do any of these challenges?

At 11:00am many of us from different classes then supported accepted Mrs Haioti & Room 2s Wig Wednesday Google Meet.

What a fabulous cause! Many of us had wigs or funky hairdos in support of Kids Cancer Foundation.

An amazing self less act then took us all by surprise.

Mrs Haioti shaved her head in support of Kids Cancer and an ex pupil who is going through treatment.

Have you ever done something selfless to help someone else?

Today Mr Margetts taught us how to make a multimodal animation post using Google Slides, Music Lab/ Incredibox and Screen Castify.

Interested in doing the same? Check out Mr Margetts multimodal learning video here to learn all about it. 😊

After the lesson we were all pretty keen to get started.  Room 8 look forward to sharing our multimodal blog posts shortly.

👀 Watch this space. 👀

Do you have any other ideas for making multimodal blog posts?

Room 8s Very 1st Blog

Welcome to our class site.

🙋 I am the proud teacher of Room 8 Scholars  - Ms Siaoloa.

Distance Learning in Room 8

Since lockdown, we meet online every weekday from 9:30am - 10:30am.

This morning 5 Early birds show up at 9:15am (even earlier) to complete our early bird task.

This week our tasks have been about proverbs and idioms.  Do you know the difference between proverbs and idioms?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At 9:30 am we're ready to roll.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
We always start with fitness.
Armed with 4 tins, our instructors Matthew and Samisoni whip us into shape.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

After fitness we say our karakia in Te Reo, English & Samoan.
We did some maths revision working on angles and for some, it was easy as pie.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

At 10:00am,  guest teacher, Mr Margetts, introduce us to a Blog Battle Challenge.  This is my very first blog for Room 8 so I managed to dodge a bullet with this challenge.

Maybe you might like to try this Blog Battle Challenge with a buddie or with your class.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Let me end with a proverb or an idiom.

"Don't put off until tomorrow what you can do today." Which one do you think it is, a proverb or an idiom?  Do you know what it means?

I wonder if you can see any other hidden idioms in our class blog... la la la 😄

***Special THANK YOU to Mr Margetts for your help  in setting up our class blog. ***
